On August 27th, current and budding advocates gathered in the Best Events Banquet Hall to learn about the A-Team. Standing for advocacy, advisement and awareness, the A-Team consists of individuals with disabilities, their family members, and anyone supporting the right to choose employment. The A-Team started in WI to unite persons with diverse abilities and their families to advocate in a grassroots effort, create awareness in the community, and advise those who care for our citizens with special needs; ensuring a full array of choice in employment options. Family advocates talked about their experiences with the A-Team, the need for advocacy, and described trips to the Capitol to talk to representatives. Current members encouraged more to get involved and several newcomers pledged to join in the advocacy efforts. Joel Kleefisch, A-Team’s Official Government Affairs and Public Relations Liaison, discussed upcoming advocacy efforts with the group. Our own Rock County A-Team will be joining hundreds of other advocates at the Capitol on October 9th to make their voices heard regarding choices in employment.
