Discounted early registration for Dragons on the Rock boat teams has been extended to July 3rd. The dragon boat race and community festival, slated for Saturday, September 14th at Traxler Park, will feature teams of 21, paddling to the rhythm of one drummer, all in one boat. Teams will compete in heats throughout the day to determine the top 3 champions. All equipment and training are provided, as well as experienced staff to steer each boat, so no experience is necessary! All teams will participate in an hour-long practice session the week leading up to the event. Participants must be 12 or older and 3-4 extra team members are strongly recommended as alternates. The top 3 placing race winners will receive medals and recognition during an award ceremony. Teams are encouraged to be creative with their attire… Especially the drummer! Drummers will have the opportunity to compete for prizes by showing off their costumes and talents during a drum competition. Here’s an example.
Boat teams are $1,700 ($80 per person) until July 3rd. Fundraise a minimum of $800 ($38 per person) to receive the VIP experience, including an extravagantly decorated team tent with plush furniture, appetizers and soft drinks. The top 3 fundraising teams will receive special recognition. After July 3rd, team registration is $1,785.
Festival admission is free and includes daylong access to spectate the dragon boat races, as well as live music, food and item vendors, and a beer tent featuring local brews from Gray Brewing and Rock County Brewing Co. Family activities will be available throughout the day, including a kids’ land boat race.
