For the 9th consecutive year, KANDU presented Party at The Pitts, a renowned annual fundraising event at Diane Hendricks’ beautiful estate. During the day, guests participated in various outdoor activities including fishing, archery, clay shooting and golf. Participants who demonstrated top skills in each sport were announced and awarded prizes that evening after dinner.
During the evening portion of this daylong event, guests enjoyed mouth-watering menu creations from local chefs competing for the honorary title of Kerry’s King of the Grill. A panel of four expert judges from Kerry chose their top three favorite dishes. Congratulations to Chef Gustavo Herrera from The Beloit Club (pictured below, left), whose delicious lamb lollipop with lima bean puree, pickled ramps and avocado salsa earned him the first place award. Chef Jen Wiedel from Blackhawk Technical College won second place with her grilled lobster crostini with blood orange mascarpone, pickled beets, fennel and onion, and Chef James Pfaff from Three F’s Chefs placed third with his grilled veggie flatbread pizza. In addition, guests of the event voted for their favorites to receive the People’s Choice Award. Sous Chef Valentin Hernandez of Merrill & Houston’s Steak House (below, top right) took home this title with his grilled salmon with honey ginger BBQ on lemon jasmine rice topped with sesame seaweed slaw.
An extravagant live auction followed dinner, along with a performance by local favorite, the Penny Mae Dixon Band. The event concluded with a beautiful fireworks display.
All of us at KANDU would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Diane, our many sponsors, donors, vendors, volunteers and guests. Without your contributions, this invaluable event would not be possible. Click here for photos from the event.
