For the 10th consecutive year, KANDU presented Party at The Pitts, a renowned annual fundraising event at Diane Hendricks’ beautiful estate. During the day, guests participated in various outdoor activities including fishing, archery, clay shooting and golf. Participants who demonstrated top skills in each sport were announced and awarded prizes that evening after dinner. A live demonstration in electric chainsaw carving was also on display throughout the afternoon.
During the evening portion of this daylong event, guests enjoyed mouth-watering menu creations from local chefs competing for the honorary title of Kerry’s King of the Grill. A panel of four expert judges from Kerry chose their top three favorite dishes. Congratulations to Chef Victor Garcia from The Beloit Club, whose lemongrass-smoked flat iron wagyu with kohlrabi puree and lotus root, ramp, miso, ginger and kale sauce earned him the first place award. Chef Doug Buchman from The Janesville Country Club won second place for his lamb sliders with pickled red onion, goat cheese and mint pesto. Chef Sarah Boyd from MacFarlane Pheasants placed third for her Thai pheasant curry with jasmine rice. In addition, guests of the event voted for their favorites to receive the People’s Choice Award. Chef Bobby Walker Jr. of Merrill & Houston’s Steak Joint took home this title for his pork tenderloin and jalapeno cheddar grits with brussels sprout salad.
An extravagant live auction followed dinner, along with a performance by local favorite, the Penny Mae Dixon Band. The event concluded with a beautiful fireworks display. All of us at KANDU would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Diane, our many sponsors, donors, vendors, volunteers and guests. Without your contributions, this invaluable event would not be possible. Click here for more photos from the event.
