KANDU Industries Announces Growth Strategy and New “Best-of-Life” Client Services Program Facility

Non-profit company lays groundwork to better serve community members with disabilities and disadvantages.

Janesville, Wis. (February 22, 2022) – KANDU Industries Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that provides programs and services to people with disabilities and disadvantages, announced today a new strategic plan for its Rock County, Wisconsin based business operations designed to more effectively enrich the lives of its more than 200 clients.

The three-year strategic plan includes a new state-of-the-art “best-of-life” facility designed for the company’s client service programs and operational headquarters, a new focus for its Best Events catering business, and the merging and expansion of its two production facilities where it employs people with disabilities in a work-safe environment.

The new state-of-the-art “best-of-life” client services program and operational headquarters will be located at 2030 Center Avenue in Janesville where the company currently operates its Best Events catering business.  The 20,000 square foot facility will undergo a complete renovation featuring amenities designed to enrich the lives of people with disabilities in what Rock County will be proud to call the Stateline’s premier adult daycare center.  The facility will include a therapeutic sensory room, saltwater aquarium, bird aviary, more natural lighting, comfort height restroom fixtures, commercial kitchen, and the company’s administrative offices.

Best Events will continue to operate from the renovated Center Avenue location, offering outside catering services with a stronger focus on small-scale events and a limited number of high-quality menu offerings and rental inventory.  KANDU completed the sale of The Armory, one of its catering venues on January 25, 2022.  KANDU has a signed offer to purchase the Pontiac Convention Center, its second catering venue. That transaction has been approved by KANDU’s board of directors and remains subject to customary closing conditions.

Finally, to better serve its client workers with disabilities, KANDU will move its 40,000 square foot production facility, currently leased at 1227 Barberry Drive, to its Adel Street production facility at 1741 Adel Street in a new 43,000 square foot expansion project.  When complete, the 81,000 square foot production facility will leverage new manufacturing processes and efficiencies that will position KANDU to grow its current production customer base and ensure long-term work for its nearly 200 client workers.

KANDU Executive Director Kathy Hansen said the expansion project is the next logical step in KANDU’s ability to execute on its mission at the highest level.  “A growing population of people with adult daycare needs, customer demand on the production side of our business, and a more challenging environment in the catering industry expedited our plan to elevate the services we offer to an industry-best level so people in our community with disabilities are offered every opportunity to live more independent and fulfilling lives,” said Hansen.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2022.

A capital campaign to help fund the project is expected to begin January of 2023.  Businesses and individuals who are interested in learning more about becoming an early donor to the campaign are encouraged to contact KANDU at 608.755.4123 or email
