A speakeasy celebration of community and impact
On Friday, June 5, KANDU welcomed guests to the 13th Annual Grapes & Hops, and what unfolded was an evening filled with connection, generosity, and unforgettable moments.
While rainy weather prompted a last-minute change of plans, it certainly did not dampen the spirit of the event. Instead, KANDU’s production floor was transformed into a vibrant 1920s speakeasy, creating a unique backdrop for a night that brought together clients, families, staff, supporters, and friends of KANDU in celebration of a shared purpose.
Guests enjoyed delicious food from Hoffman House Catering, sampled beer and wine poured by our incredible celebrity pourers, and danced the night away to the sounds of Tony Ocean & the Main Event Band. Laughter filled the room, new friendships were formed, and familiar faces gathered to celebrate a mission that changes lives every day.
The live auction added to the excitement of the evening, featuring everything from getaway trips and Green Bay Packers tickets to a grill package and a one-of-a-kind JENGA set hand-decorated by KANDU clients in recognition of Autism Awareness. The custom piece reflected the creativity, talent, and pride of the individuals we support, making it one of the night’s most memorable items.
Another highlight was the overwhelming support shown for KANDU’s planned Advantage Bathing System. Part of the future KANDU Spa, this project will help create a safe, comfortable, and dignified environment where individuals can receive personal care support while maintaining independence and well-being. Through generous contributions made during the event, guests helped move this meaningful initiative significantly closer to becoming a reality.
Reflecting on the evening, Executive Director Kathy Hansen shared, “Grapes & Hops is much more than a fundraiser for KANDU. It is an opportunity for our community to come together and invest in the lives of the individuals we serve. Every dollar raised helps create opportunities for greater independence, meaningful connections, and brighter futures for our clients. We are deeply grateful to everyone who makes this event possible.”
More than anything, the evening felt like a reminder of what a connected community can do when it shows up with heart. From every ticket purchased to every bid placed and every moment shared, the night reflected a genuine care for the individuals at the center of KANDU’s mission.
As the evening came to a close, what lingered was not just the music, the theme, or the auction moments, but the feeling of being surrounded by a community that truly shows up for one another. In a space transformed by rain and generosity alike, Grapes & Hops became a celebration of belonging, dignity, and possibility.
